Aurora Hake
My name is Aurora Hake, and as of September, I am a senior at the Annie Wright Upper School in Tacoma, Washington. My father is a performing cellist, teaches private lessons, and conducts several orchestras (including my school’s), while my mother is a poet. I have two older siblings, and a dog named Pinecone! My most enjoyable pastimes involve watching inordinate amounts of Leverage, Star Trek, and NCIS, or listening to all of the orchestral scores of my favorite movies. I am an avid crocheter and a novice knitter, and love making scarves and hats as gifts for my friends at youth symphony and school.
My two constant passions in life have always been music and STEM. I began learning music at age three by learning violin, and then learned viola, cello, and double bass in my middle and high school years. I have participated in the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association for almost ten years, and was in the Peninsula Youth Organization for about four. Music has been both an escape and a passion for me, and I have always loved it! STEM fields have also been captivating to me since my first experience with science as a toddler playing with magnets on the kitchen refrigerator. I have competed in science fairs in both regional and state levels, and have enjoyed being in my school’s Science Team elective for the past three years. I love STEM fields because they allow me to understand the world around me better, and therefore act better in it. Additionally, it gives me an outlet for my curiosity that probably wouldn’t be very useful anywhere else! Some of my favorite branches of STEM include physics, astronomy, and I plan on studying aerospace engineering in college. My advice to anyone reading this bio is to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. Stretch yourself and make yourself a little uncomfortable! Everyone has the potential to be amazing; all it takes is the courage to take the first step and to keep moving. Anything can happen, including winning a contest that allows you to meet nine other wonderful young women, along with a plethora of amazing role models. |
